U can itentify the playable Nations very easy: They all have a Lvl 8 Good-producing Province as their capitol City. Exept Aragon, its playable too but the Capitol has a mapbbug.

I must say the 1st round with Terra Incognita was better. The New Age map has an incredible high bonus on playernations and extreme penality on AI-Nations. By Conquering the playable Nations Capitols u get incredible rich, the AI cant trade so theres nearly no traqding, and if u conquer playable nations u get an endless flood of rescources which removes the eceonomical aspect of any strategy. On Terra Incognita u have to think about ur moves and when u play worse u wont stand ur ground in a war …

Actualöy mercs are cheaper than regular units. When u sell all the rescources for 3 silvercoins each(usually u sell them for more) u get more money from selling the Rescources needed for regular units than u need to build a merc of the same type.
