November 11th 1778,
My Dearest Abigail,
Today our eyes have seen the most horrific battle in this our war for freedom. The British and their native allies the Seneca and Mohawks came down like fire and attacked without care the entire village, men, women and children of all ages and backgrounds were not spared. It is with a heavy heart I write you to tell you that our youngest, Joshua has been killed while taking refuge in the fort. They destroyed everything in sight and attacked anything and everything that moved.
Colonel Ichabod Alden was warned of the threat but refused to act as he was skeptical, we were out numbered 2 to 1. The Loyalist forces easily swept aside the Patriots forces killing more than 40 Patriots, including Alden, and have taken many prisoners. I have assumed command of the tattered remains of the Patriot Forces who remain in hiding
The red of the snow is the only color left in the village
Until we meet again,
